What Is Perimenopause?
Eventually, menopause becomes a topic of conversation as women age, but not every woman knows what perimenopause is.
Perimenopause means “around menopause,” and it’s the stage before a woman officially starts menopause—when her hormone levels begin fluctuating. The average American woman begins perimenopause at age 47, and this window can last for 4 to 10 years.
Every woman experiences it differently, making it hard to define. At the Confidence Clinic, we divide perimenopause symptoms near Largo, FL, into two stages:
- Early: Patients experience mildly irregular periods (around a week early or a week late)
- Late: Menstruation becomes much more irregular, sometimes with as much as 60 days between cycles. After 12 months of missed periods, you’ve officially begun menopause.
Symptoms of Perimenopause
Wondering if what you’re feeling is perimenopause? Symptoms vary for everyone, but can include:
- Irregular periods
- Hot flashes
- Night sweats
- Poor sleep
- Brain fog
- Weight gain or loss
- Vaginal dryness
- Low libido

What Causes Perimenopause?
Perimenopause marks the decline of a woman’s estrogen production. This hormone, commonly called the “female sex hormone,” controls processes like puberty, menstruation, and pregnancy.
There are three types of estrogen:
- Estradiol: Your body produces estradiol, the strongest form of estrogen, during puberty and your reproductive years. This hormone promotes the development of female sex organs, maintains bone health and can protect against cardiovascular disease.
- Estriol: During pregnancy, your body focuses on estriol production, which helps the uterus stretch and supports fetal development. Estriol levels peak about 3 weeks before birth, and gradually decline until the body reverts to producing estradiol.
- Estrone: Your body switches to producing estrone during menopause, eventually halting estradiol and estriol production entirely. While estrone performs the same functions as estradiol, it is a weaker form of estrogen.
As your body makes the switch, your estrogen levels decline, creating a progesterone imbalance and leading to perimenopause symptoms near Largo.

Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) involves the administration of hormones that are chemically identical to those found in your body. BHRT helps level out any hormone imbalances.
At the Confidence Clinic, we have options—pills, creams and even lozenges—to help you kick your symptoms to the curb.
Estrogen
As the body transitions from producing estradiol to estrone, your estrogen levels drop. In addition to perimenopause, low estrogen levels can also result from:
- Poor nutrition
- Genetic conditions like Turner syndrome or Fragile X
- Autoimmune disorders like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis or scleroderma
- Chemotherapy, oophorectomy or hypothalamic amenorrhea
Symptoms of low estrogen levels closely mirror perimenopause symptoms near Largo, but can also include dry skin, tender breasts, vaginal dryness orinsomnia.
Progesterone
Progesterone, or the “pregnancy hormone,” supports fetal growth during pregnancy. It also thickens the uterine lining to prepare for egg fertilization. If a pregnancy doesn’t occur, the body sheds this lining, decreasing progesterone levels.
Common causes of low progesterone are:
- Ovulation disorders, like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or anovulation
- Chronic stress
- Obesity or extreme dieting
- Thyroid disorders, like hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism
- Menopause
While progesterone deficiency can cause pregnancy complications like ectopic pregnancy or preterm labor, it is also responsible for many symptoms commonly associated with perimenopause, including irregular periods, mood changes, trouble sleeping and hot flashes.
DHEA
Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a building block of estrogen. Your ovaries, brain, and fat tissues convert DHEA into estrone and estradiol, acting as the body’s primary source of estrogen after menopause.
Common conditions linked to low DHEA levels include:
- Adrenal gland issues like Addison’s Disease
- Hypopituitarism
- Autoimmune disorders
- Poor nutrition
- Certain medications like corticosteroids
Low DHEA levels can also lead to estrogen deficiency, causing perimenopause symptoms.

Testosterone
Testosterone is not just for men. Low T levels have negative health consequences for women, too, with symptoms like:
- Low libido
- Muscle loss or weakness
- Brain fog
- Irregular menstruation
- Fatigue or trouble sleeping

I’ve been on my HRT journey since 2023 and had already gone through two doctors before I met Allison. Let’s just say… if HRT was dating, I was ready to ghost the whole thing. My prescriptions were getting changed without my consent, communication was almost nonexistent, and I was this close to giving up altogether.
Then I had my first appointment with Allison at The Confidence Clinic — and wow, game changer… If you’re frustrated with your HRT journey, don’t give up like I almost did — just book with Allison. Your future self will thank you.

Peptides
Sexual health peptide injections help you reconnect with your body. Designed to combat low libido, hormone imbalance and mood instability, these injections complement HRT or can serve as a non-hormonal alternative.
We offer the following peptide injections, empowering our clients to reclaim control of their health and wellness:
- Sermorelin: A synthetic version of GHRH (growth hormone-releasing hormone), sermorelin boosts human growth hormone (HGH) production. These injections yield increased energy levels, enhanced libido and better sleep.
- BPD-157: This synthetic peptide enhances GHRH function and supports the body’s immune system to reduce inflammation and improve gut health.
- CJC-1295 & Impamorelin: CJC-1295 stimulates HGH production while Ipamoreline mimics the “hunger hormone,” ghrelin. Together, they build muscle mass, boost metabolism and strengthen bones.
- Oxytocin: Declining estrogen production can cause low oxytocin levels. This “love hormone” enhances sexual arousal, increases pain tolerance and supports your metabolism.
- PT-141: We prescribe PT-141 for hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), or the long-term absence of sexual desire, which is often linked with depression and poor mood. This peptide increases libido for up to 72 hours after administration.

O-Shot
The O-Shot (Orgasm Shot®) uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derived from a sample of your blood to rejuvenate the vaginal and clitoral tissues through increased collagen production, blood circulation and nerve sensitivity.
While various medical concerns can cause sexual dysfunction, such as hypoactive sexual desire disorder or female orgasmic disorder, it is a common symptom of perimenopause.
The O-Shot alleviates indicators like:
- Low libido
- Vaginal Dryness
- Urge urinary incontinence
- Lichen sclerosus/planus (thin, itchy skin or red bumps near the genitals)
To obtain the PRP for the O-Shot, we take a patient’s blood sample and rapidly spin it in a centrifuge, separating the components of the blood—including platelet-rich plasma. This plasma has a high concentration of platelets that are responsible for blood clotting, immune response and skin rejuvenation.
After applying local anesthesia, we inject the PRP into the vaginal and clitoral tissues, near the Gräfenberg spot, or “G-spot.” Patients report little to no pain, saying it’s comparable to a Pap smear.
The result? Increased vaginal lubrication, more frequent or stronger orgasms and reduced urinary incontinence.
Wellness Injections
Wellness injections supply your body with the essential vitamins and nutrients it needs when you’re experiencing perimenopause symptoms near Largo. Without these minerals, your body can’t function at its best.
After a complimentary consultation with our team, you can walk out confidently with a plan—and enhanced vitality. We may prescribe:
- NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide): Supports the mitochondria to improve energy levels, clear brain fog and regulate metabolic and cardiovascular function to get you back to feeling like the sexy woman you are.
- B12: Improves mood, metabolism and nerve function to combat declining gut absorption, low stomach acid and Hashimoto’s disease, conditions common in perimenopausal women.
- Glutathione: Revitalizes the skin, reduces inflammation and detoxifies the body, minimizing the symptoms of oxidative stress caused by perimenopause.
- L-Carnatine: Reduces stubborn fat and helps minimize hormonal weight gain by encouraging the body to transform fat into cellular energy.
Combining wellness injections with our other female sexual health and wellness treatments helps our clients find clarity during perimenopause and feel truly heard.
